Seek the Eagle Experience takes you up the century-old Banyan tree at the Gao Shan Forest Tribal Ranch. Begin by listening to tribal stories and getting to know the great tree. After learning tree climbing techniques, you’ll ascend to the treetops and then bravely descend back to the ground. This half-day experience emphasizes close interaction with the tree, culminating in the rewarding feeling of reaching the top and gazing out over the Pacific Ocean. The process of setting a goal and striving to achieve it is the most precious gift that the ranch’s century-old tree grandfather wants to give you.

Seek the Eagle: Ascend the century-old Banyan tree at the Gao Shan Forest Tribal Ranch and journey to the places where tribal children once searched for bird eggs, and where eagles raise their young. We will first immerse you in the tribal stories of the Coastal Bunun. Listen to the tales of the seasoned hunters, whose adventurous spirit led them on a journey from the Central Mountain Range to this very place. Get to know the Gao Shan Forest Tribal Ranch through these captivating narratives.

Gaze at the Pacific Ocean from the Embrace of the Tree

Interacting with, touching, and feeling the tree are key aspects of the Seek the Eagle activity. As you ascend to the treetops, you’ll receive the wisdom of the tree, experiencing the embrace of the mountains, the sea, and the century-old Banyan tree grandfather. Using ropes, you’ll safely pull yourself up into the tree's embrace.

The Adventure and Courage of Leaving the Ground

Together, we will practice the process of mastering new skills, starting with understanding and correctly using the equipment. Set a personal goal you wish to achieve, and then use rope techniques to gradually pull yourself up the tree or challenge yourself to climb the tree with your bare hands.

FAQ

  • Please wear non-slip, dirt-resistant shoes (avoid sandals; if wearing sports sandals, please add socks). Long pants are recommended. If borrowing rain boots from the ranch (limited sizes available), please bring your own socks.
  • Please bring a raincoat (mandatory) and an umbrella; a lightweight rain poncho with a hood is acceptable. For the Seek the Eagle experience, prepare a two-piece raincoat. In case of rain with no safety concerns, raincoats will be worn during the experience. It is advisable to bring a change of clothes and a towel for washing up after the activity. The ranch provides adequate washing facilities.
  • In summer, it’s recommended to wear a hat for sun protection and bring mosquito repellent; the ranch only has general mosquitoes, not black mosquitoes. For the tree climbing experience in Seek the Eagle, please bring a baseball cap.
  • Bring your own drink container; the ranch has bottled water available. If you have ordered a meal, please bring your own chopsticks or spoon.
  • Photography and filming are allowed at the ranch’s main area, but recording is prohibited once you enter the forest.
  • If you have any symptoms of respiratory illness, please wear a mask within social distancing limits to protect everyone’s health.

▼ By booking and paying for the experience, you agree to the following terms. It is recommended to read them carefully before making a reservation.

To process a refund, please notify Gao Shan Forest Tribal Ranch customer service via Line@, including your name, reservation date or order number, and refund account details.

  1. Typhoon and Severe Weather Conditions
    • Within 5 days before the activity: If a land-based typhoon warning is issued for the Hualien area, you may apply for a postponement directly.
    • Within 3 days before the activity: If the Central Weather Bureau issues a marine typhoon warning for Hualien County, the ranch will proactively cancel the activity for that day. You can apply for a postponement or request a full refund.
    • If Hualien County is on a heavy rain warning list within 7 days before the activity: You may request a postponement no later than 2 days before the activity date. The new activity date will be scheduled within one week of the postponement request, based on ranch availability.
    • If heavy rain warnings continue for the postponed date: You may request a full refund no later than 2 days before the new activity date.
    • Heavy rain warnings and typhoon alerts are based on the information provided by the Central Weather Bureau website.
    • For cancellations/refunds not caused by the ranch, any refund processing fees will be borne by the customer.
    • The refund policy may be adjusted based on actual circumstances and mutual interests. Gao Shan Forest Tribal Ranch reserves the right to modify the policy and notify the customer.

Cancellation or Changes Not Due to Force Majeure

  • 15 days or more before the activity: Refund of 95%.
  • 14-11 days before the activity: Refund of 70%.
  • 10-8 days before the activity: Refund of 50%.
  • 7-5 days before the activity: Refund of 30%.
  • 4-3 days before the activity: Refund of 20%.

2 days or less before the activity: No refund for cancellations or changes.

  • Rain is a regular part of the experience at Gao Shan Forest Tribal Ranch and the forest. We will not adjust the itinerary for rain that does not pose a safety risk. Participants are encouraged to wear their own raincoats to continue with the activities.
  • If the rain intensifies on the day of the activity and affects the experience, our guides will adjust the content of the experience as needed to ensure the best possible outcome.
  • If you have elderly companions or young children in your group, please provide this information before booking and maintain communication with us through Line customer service.
  • By booking and paying for the experience, you agree to these terms. Please ensure you read and share this information with your companions before making a reservation.

Children aged 4 and older, as well as seniors up to 99 years old, can participate as long as they can walk independently, have general physical coordination, and are willing to attempt climbing. If you have any chronic health conditions, please inform us in advance.

During the experience, our guides will observe and provide appropriate guidance and interaction based on the needs and preferences of children and seniors. However, due to physical endurance and psychological responses, participants may not be able to climb as high or for as long. Please be aware that they may not complete the entire experience.
